Low-code facilitates the evolution towards Industry 4.0
Low-code platforms have the potential to become an accelerator of digital transformation in industry. Their use facilitates and accelerates the implementation of applications in production plants.
The changes that manufacturers have been experiencing in recent years are moving towards continuous exchange of information between factories, suppliers and customers. New technologies are playing an increasingly important role in this process. The use of the Internet of Things, mobile devices and data analysis means that production plants are increasing their efficiency and quickly adapting to changes taking place on the market. One of the biggest challenges facing manufacturers is the time it takes to develop applications in relation to the pace of necessary changes. In this case, low-code platforms can be very helpful.
Low-code platforms on the rise
Programming using low-code platforms allows companies to quickly create and deploy applications with little work on the part of the programmer. Instead of writing every line of code for a specific application, users can build their projects using graphical interfaces such as "drag and drop". Gartner predicts that by the end of 2021, global revenue from sales of low-code platforms will amount to $13.8 billion, which means a 23 percent increase compared to the previous year. Dariusz Pruchnik, Managing Director at LLCD, the company that owns the nAxiom platform, admits that creating applications using low-code platforms is nothing new, but the deficit of programmers and the companies' drive to improve efficiency mean that platforms of this type are gaining many supporters, including in the broadly understood industrial sector.
Low-code applications for small and medium-sized manufacturers
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about Industry 4.0 and concepts such as automation or artificial intelligence. Analysts and the media focus their attention on spectacular implementations in global corporations. You definitely hear less about medium or small production plants that cannot afford to implement advanced, expensive systems.
Low-code platforms are an ideal solution for smaller manufacturers. On the one hand, they allow you to solve problems related to efficiency or work organization, on the other, they can gently and with relatively small financial outlays implement applications supporting the company's efficiency - explains Dariusz Pruchnik.
In conversations with clients, I notice that they often cannot determine the source of problems occurring on the production line. Meanwhile, it turns out that simple applications developed using a low-code platform allow you to find bottlenecks - adds Dariusz Pruchnik.
Summary
The future of low-code platforms in the industrial sector looks bright. Their use accelerates the evolution towards intelligent production, providing solutions for connecting technologies, processes and people in increasingly intelligent factories.
